Photopia Director Tutorials

Hello Jennifer. It is me Dina. I have downloaded the trial of Creator. I did not import anything from my Producer as I wanted to explore it in its original state. and see what styles it has and such.  I have been looking at the tutorials. I did not want to write anything in the forum yet until the trial period of 14 days is over and I get to know Creator more. It seems that I am in deep love with Producer and I am so acquainted with it.  Creator interface is different and confusing.  I am not progressing well with it, but I am only in day one of the trial so I will not judge. There is so much to learn and get used too.

I'll be honest with you....it took me a little over a week of constant use to really get used to it.  A week.  And I was in these programs for 6-8 hours a day.  It's similar to sitting in the cockpit of a plane for the first time.  You'll learn what all those buttons and controls do, eventually, but not after 30 minutes without any guidance.  I'm going to make tutorials as fast as I can, just tell me where you're getting stuck first, and I'll help get you unstuck 🙂

These programs are robust, which means there's a lot to learn.  Not only do I think there's nothing wrong with continuing to use ProShow while you get familiar with Creator, I honestly recommend it.  If you have shows you're currently working on, use ProShow.  If you have a show that you plan to do sometime in the future, start playing with that in Creator now...knowing that you have plenty of time to learn 🙂

I you need all that time to get up and running, I am going to need at least 25 hours a day during the trial period!

I was looking for everything, though.  That was my purpose.   I was putting these programs through the "creation wringer" at an insane pace with a single goal in mind: to see what I could build with them.  It didn't even occur to me to try and build an actual show until months later (it was kind of a "duh" moment on my part.  I make effects 90% of the time, not actual shows)

You could produce a show in a matter of hours after opening the program, if you used pre-made templates or slide styles.  Animating your own slides may take a little more time, due to the switch from the Slide Options window to the Navigation Tab.  That just takes a little getting used to, just like anything else that's new 🙂

Agree with you. The Creator interface is unlike Producer, which I found to be near perfection. As a result I have now downloaded a trial version of Director, hoping it will be even more like Producer. I need to get more involved with the community with this software than I was with Producer. I basically taught myself everything over the course of ten years and now I need to find out what the same and what's different. I may run Producer for the forseeable future since nobody is forcing us to make this change. That being said, as a Board member of a 330+ member camera club I need to know what I'm talking about when I deliver a talk on slideshow software on March 10!

The Creator and Director interfaces are nearly identical, so you won't find much difference there.  Honestly, change takes time.  I was frustrated with Photopia's interface at first, too (mostly due to not being able to find anything), but now that I've been using it for months, I get frustrated when I go back to Producer because I can now see all of it's limitations.  That just took time.

Make sure that you watch all the Tutorials on the Photopia Website.  They'll give you a good basic tour of the new interface 🙂
