Dear Photopia,
I am sorry but I just cannot continue with this relationship which I/we started with good faith and really high hopes.
I realise that you honestly tried to make this work from the start but I find that you are just not mature enough for me at the moment and you have made promises which you were just unable to keep.
I am sure you have some really good points but I am afraid that I just have not had the time to find them and take proper advantage of them. I would love to persevere for another couple of weeks but as you only gave me a 12 day trial period then it is just not possible.
I seem to have spent most of the time trying to move my stuff into your house and it just does not fit or suit your decor. You did promise that the majority of the stuff which I had in my last relationship (with Penny Proshow) would work. But it turns out that in fact there are just too many issues and that it seems the majority does not exactly fit properly or you just don't like it. I am sure that with a bit more "remodelling" on your part a lot of this will be sorted out.
It has meant that I have not had time to properly check out all your features but when I have, I have to say that in the main I have been rather underwhelmed. Mainly with the bugs that I found crawling around everywhere. I would have thought that you would have fumigated a bit better before inviting the public in!
I really did make a last ditch attempt at making this work today but I am afraid that you just took too much of my resources to keep going and that just slowed me down to a grinding halt.
As you know I am a fairly powerful beast (i9-9900 running at 3.60 GHZ with 64GB memory, ssd hard drives etc), my other relationhips with Graphics and video editing programmes are speedy and have never ground to a halt. Even having them all running together they are quite frugal and only use about 15-18% (less than1-2GB each) of my memory. I am afraid the same cannot be said of you. Just playing back a simple 15 slide show and you slowed down to the point where you were jerky and virtually stopping. I noticed you were using about 12-13 GB of my memory and that is just too much for what you were doing. I didn't know you were quite so greedy when I first met you. There were other times when you just stopped doing anything at all until I gave you a little boost by letting you sleep for a minute then starting you up again.
So it is with a heavy heart (and lighter wallet) that I must say au revoir for now.
I would love to look in occassionally to see if you have made any significant changes and if maybe in the future you don't mind my using resources from my previous relationship and of course to check you have fumigated a bit to get rid of the bugs.
Please don't be sad. It is not entirely your fault. It is me as well. I just need to be able to keep my old stuff and I do really need to make sure that I can keep going at a decent speed without having to wait for others to catch up or them breaking down entirely.
All the best
AndyW
Hi Andy!
It's a pity that we will not read anything from you anymore.
Your point of view is completely understandable and comprehensible.
Many users will follow your way and I fear that this company will not survive with this program.
I suspect photopia will learn nothing from this situation.
Hopefully you have sent the text directly to photopia because I'm afraid they do not read in this forum.
Here is very rarely someone from them.
The idea for the program is good, the technical implementation and the support bad, the whole marketing is terrible!
See only the price expectations and the short test opportunity.
Photopia would have really needed people like us who would buy the program and would accompany the development with suggestions.
But as I said: marketing terrible!

I would regard this as a good decision!
Thanks Peter.
I will probably keep my eye on this forum for a while to see what is happening and may throw in my tuppence worth now and again.
I will be sending my "Dear John" letter to them. I have had a few back and forths with Joshua from Photopia about some of the issues so who knows maybe they do take notice but just don't have the time to come on here because they are fixing things !!!! I am an optimist.
I will keep using ProShow for now. I am very used to it having used it for a number of years.
I was hoping, as were many of us I think, that this offering from Photopia would be the "next evolution" as they said.
Sadly at the moment it isn't. I have my own thoughts on what the reasons may be for that.
Anyway, ce la vie. Let's wait and see what happens in the next couple of months. It is either sink or swim for photopia I guess.
Good luck
Andy

@andyw Hope to see you back after the dust settles. I think I will also take a look at PTE-AV. Much better price point.
As you read thru this thread, one cannot miss the eloquence of everyone's communication skills. It is your high level of pgm expectations paired with your keen communication style which is exactly what this company needs most right now. I see examples of what this pgm can do which challenges me to figure out how to do it. It is during that effort, when pgm glitches surface, and all of us benefit from that call out and eventual resolution.
For me, it was very sad to see Photodex wind down. But with Photopia, I see a great opportunity.
Just sharing...
Lynn
You are right Lynn, it is sad to see Photodex go and also Photopia offered/offers a great opportunity.
But... (sorry always a but), I do think they released the product to the market too soon.
There are probably a load of reasons why this may be the case but ultimately, in my opinion, it is not quite ready for general release.
This is potentially going to damage them, hopefully only short term but potentially longer term.
Photopia was being touted (by some) as the replacement and upgrade for Proshow and as such the expectations were high. Especially as it meant that users would be able to use "the majority" of their existing Proshow stuff in Photopia. That would be a very very large plus for a user such as myself who has many shows which I use as templates and who uses existing styles and transitions and just tweak them as required.
I don't know what their beta testing was like but from where I am sitting it would appear to be either rushed or just not thorough enough in spread of users.
I have picked up just too many things which should never have gotten through the beta stages.
As I said, ce la vie. Hopefully they will live and learn and improve what promises to be a good programme.
Cheers

Is this fun or serious? I haven't seen a single advanced program in recent years that hasn't had many bugs when released. Many users but not all of them have had major difficulties. All companies have managed to fix bugs.I am not surprised if here also are difficulties with this program.
What I have noticed this company is working hard, I get answers on Sundays from them. When I could not fix problems.
Now they are resolved. I bought this program. I learn a lot from Jennifer video on Vimeo.Photopia works perfectly on my laptop and
I later daownload to a stronger desktop computer. I'm sorry you have difficulties, it takes on forces when programs don't work.
But believe me the company will fix all the problems. No one starts a business without knowledge. Imagine what all these things
they have created have cost them. As I said in the beginning, even the big companies have had the exact same problems
in the beginning or major upgrades like this one. I like programs that is why I have many. and I was in love Proshow.
This way i think about the Photopia and I recpect your opinion and I'm sorry for your difficulties
@mirja
It is deadly serious I am afraid.
I must take issue with a couple of things you said.
Yes, software has bugs, but no company that I have ever worked with or whose software I have worked with has ever released to the public a version where there are quite so many very basic issues as this one would appear to have and I have experienced myself. Just read the forums to see what some of these basic faults are. I stand by my statement that this programme was released to the market too soon
If it works perfectly on your machines then good for you, I will be honest and say that I am very surprised by that and would be interested in the type of show you produce and specs of your machines. Maybe all those of us having problems can learn something because as you can see there are a number of very basic issues people are experiencing.
I am sure that Photopia are working hard to fix the issues they have with their software. After all it is in their interest to do so as quickly and as well as possible. I wish them all the luck in the world with their venture.
However, I will not be using it in the near future because it does not work for what I need it to.
Andy,
congratulations!

@mirja, It's great that you get answers on Sunday but why have a forum if company reps don't reply to problems? Your individual question could have been answered here and everyone would have benefited. I just wonder how many times has support answered the same question? Program definitely is still in beta and we are paying for it. I'm not saying you shouldn't get answers by calling support, I just wish they would show up here more often, Joshua has not made a post in more than 5 days. That's 5 days after the product was released. Maybe Joshua is the only one there??
Andy,
While I agree that Photopia have been a little to eagre to get the programmes out before some large (and small) bugs were found and killed, I wonder why you need to move your Photodex projects over to Photopia?
I see this mistake being made year in and year out by other users of other programmes for visual creation. Mainly in the area of NLEs.
Photodex programmes will continue to work with your old Photodex projects! You can have both Photodex and Photopia running on the same computer. If Photopia had not turned up a couple of weeks ago, you would still be creating stuff with Photodex.
The golden rule is always: Keep your old creations in the programme you created them in. Finish them there. Go back to adjust old creations in the original programme. Do not try and make the new programme do everything the old one could.
Start from scratch with the new programme. Get used to the new workflow. Start creating new projects in the new programme. Do not try and make Director/Creator work as ProShow/Gold. They are different beasts.
I learned this many years ago and I have applied this philosophy now, with Creator. I am finding it very responsive and am able to do things that add to my, new projects, as I learn the new interface, that I could never do in Producer. Of course, I have slowed down as I learn. By following Jennifer's Vimeo tutorials I discover new aspects daily.
I wonder why Jennifer, who we all know as an extremely active and creative user of Photodex programmes, would be moving over towards Photopia? I would have thought that she would also be complaining about the state of Photopia. But - No - she is not. She is forging ahead with new tutorials for Photopia.
Finally, Andy (and others on this thread) I do not mean to sound like I am chastising anyone here. I do respect your opinions and your descision. I just wanted to add my own opinions to the discussion. One thing that I find on this forum, is that everyone - both with positive and negative opinions - are able to discuss their differences with level headed composure.
I hope to see you back here again in the near future. 👍
Regards
Douglas
