Adjusting Slide and Transition Times in the Timeline View

You can visually adjust your Slide and Transition duration in the Timeline View.  First, it’s important to understand that each transition is attached to the Slide before it.  If a Slide is selected, the transition after it will also be highlighted.  If a Transition is selected, the Slide before it will be highlighted.

Helpful Tip!

Use your mouse wheel to zoom
the timeline in to see your Slides
and Transitions better.

Clicking and dragging on a divider line will adjust the Slide or Transition to its left.  In the above example, the Slide duration is adjusted, as it is to the left of the mouse. This is called a Ripple EditThis type of edit will affect the start time of all slides and transitions that come after it.

In this example, it is the Transition duration that is adjusted.  Note that the same Slide and Transition are selected as in the previous example, but the location of the mouse is at the divider to the right of the Transition.

A rolling edit locks the outer positions in place, while adjusting the line in the middle. Holding down your Ctrl or Cmd key while you click and drag creates a rolling edit.  In the above image, the Slide on the left starts at 25 seconds and the Transition on the right ends at 30 seconds.  These points won’t be affected by a rolling edit.

In the above image the Ctrl or Cmd key is pressed while clicking and dragging to the left.  This increases the Slide duration while decreasing the Transition duration, allowing the outer times to remain at 25 and 30 seconds.

In the above image the Ctrl or Cmd key is pressed while clicking and dragging to the right.  This increases the Transition duration while decreasing the Slide duration, allowing the outer times to remain at 25 and 30 seconds.

A Slide Edit will lock the Slide or Transition that is to the left of the divider to its current duration, while adjusting both Slides or Transitions before and after it.  In the above image, note that the start of the transition before our selected slide, the end of the transition after our selected slide, and the slide duration itself won’t change when we perform a Slide Edit.

The durations of both the incoming and outgoing transitions will be adjusted, but not the slide duration.
