Is there anyway to have the lyrics for the music somehow synced so that they are displayed on the slides as it plays?

Not that I know of!
Recently had to do exactly that for a novelty birthday song--I set up one slide for each few lines of text, used my stop watch to time the music, and then used trial and error to match (and advance) the correct lyrics (slide by slide) to the music. It worked fairly well--but do be sure to lock the slide times and the transition times after getting the right music sync for each of them!
Oh yes, you could also type the entire music libretto and then have the slide do one continuous scroll during the song.

Hmm, I like option 2... It's about 5 minutes long and I've got 85 slides. I think I could break it up into verses and chorus and just put them in chunks. Sort of what you suggested, but still I've got to figure out how to do that.
