Managing Your Slideshow Effects in Photopia
f you’ve ever spent too much time scrolling through your list of Styles or Transitions trying to find the one you want, it might be time to get familiar with Photopia’s Manage Effects window. This handy area lets you organize, import, and fine-tune your effects so they’re easier to find and use in your shows.
Each tab in the Manage Effects window represents a different type of effect, such as Slide Styles, Transitions, and Templates. Each effect type has its own set of Categories, including a Favorites category, which helps keep things organized and specific to that effect type.
Search Categories
Looking for something specific? Use the Search Bar at the top of the list to quickly find an effect by name. If you’re not sure what category it’s in, choose All Effects to see results from all categories in that effect type.
To import effects, click the Import button at the bottom of the Manage Effects window, navigate to the folder with your effect files, select as many as you want, and click Open.
You can import multiple files at once, and Photopia will automatically place them under the right effect type.
Viewing Effect Information
When you click on an effect, Photopia shows extra details on the right side of the window—like the effect’s Author, Location, Categories, and Variants. This makes it easy to see where an effect came from and how it’s organized within your collection.
Effect Packages may come with Video Tutorials or PDF instructions. After selecting the Effect Package, you will find links to those, as well as a link to view all effects included in the selected package on the right side of this window.
Categorizing Effects
Keeping your effects organized into categories can save you a lot of time later.
To categorize an effect, select it and click Categorize at the bottom of the window. You can check one or more boxes to add it to multiple categories, or uncheck boxes to remove it from those categories.
Want to make your own custom categories? Click the Add button and give your new category a name.
To remove a category, it must be empty. You can either move the effects to another category or delete them. Once a category has no effects left, it will automatically disappear from your category list.
Removing Effects
If you want to permanently remove any effect (or multiple effects) and click the Remove button.
Keep in mind that effects don’t go to a temporary trash bin. Once you remove them, they’re gone. If you need the effect removed again, you’ll need to reimport it from the original file. Built-In Effects cannot be removed, but they can be hidden.
Hiding and Showing Effects
You can also tidy up your workspace by hiding effects you don’t want to see all the time.
To hide an effect, select it and click the Hide icon. It will stay installed, but won’t appear in your Style or Transition lists while creating a show.
Hidden effects will appear lighter in color in the Manage Effects Window. To bring it back, just return to the Manage Effects window, select it again, and click Show.
Final Thoughts
Managing your slideshow effects is a small step that makes a big difference. With everything neatly categorized and easy to find, you can spend less time searching and more time creating shows that look amazing.
