Vertical Publishing Options
Photopia has recently introduced vertical publishing options for most social media and video file outputs. What is the best way to publish a vertical slideshow, and what are the available options? Learn more in today’s blog as we explore the best ways to publish a vertical slideshow in Photopia.
When creating a vertical show for Photopia, it’s important to plan for that format right from the beginning. This means you need to choose a vertical Show Aspect Ratio when you begin your project.
When you start a new Blank Show or Wizard Theme in Photopia, you need to choose an aspect ratio for your project. Think about where you will publish your show. YouTube, for example, has only two options: 16:9 and 9:16. TikTok only supports the 9:16 aspect ratio.
In this example, we plan to publish our video on both Facebook and Instagram. Both platforms offer a publishing option for a 4:3 aspect ratio. We can preview how the video will look on both computer screens and mobile devices, in either vertical or horizontal orientations, by toggling the viewing options in the upper right corner.
When creating a vertical show, it’s important to remember that this format is relatively new. Some existing templates or slide styles may not work with a vertical aspect ratio, but some might. The best approach is to test them out and determine if they work with this format, require minor adjustments, or if it’s best to choose a different effect.
When previewing the Backdrop Dark Framed Zoom Out 3D style, everything looks great, so we know we can use this style.
When previewing the Collage Light Portrait Single Zoom Style it doesn’t look right. The white frame in this style was designed to be used exclusively with 16×9 shows.
You can always create a vertical presentation without using prebuilt Slide Styles to ensure that everything looks great.
Once you have finished building your show, click the Publish option. In our example, we plan to upload the show to both Facebook and Instagram, but we only need to publish it once.
If we compare the Output Format Details for both platforms, specifically the 4:5 aspect ratio, we can see that they are identical. (Instagram shown above; Facebook shown below)
We know that we can choose either of these options: publish the video file to a location on our computer, then upload that video file to both platforms.
